Stanley Goldberg MD is a cardiologist who has a parallel specialty in Preventative Cardiology (now called Lipidology). Lipidology is a lesser known specialty that involves diagnosis and treatment of all aspects that might lead to a cardiovascular event. Half a century ago we had no medications or other treatments that were very effective for treatment or prevention of cardiovascular issues. My Interest in both congenital cardiology and prevention of cardiovascular events began at that early time. Even today, cardiovascular issues account for about half of all deaths. I achieved board certification in congenital cardiology which involved both children and adults in that long ago era. My board certification in Lipidology awaited the formation of a certifying board some years later. We now have the capability to prevent or delay events due to the research, medications, and genetics that could not have even been dreamed about in those early days. I am completely orientated to employing these newer advances to benefit patients. Clearly, the earlier we can identify the risk, the better to alter the outcome.
